About the Algarve

The Algarve is the southernmost region of mainland Portugal and covers an area of 5,000Km2. With 200 Km of Atlantic Ocean coastline, it has a climate similar to the Mediterranean. The population is close to 400,000 inhabitants of all nationalities, distributed through 16 municipalities and settled mostly on the coastline.

The Beauty of the landscape and the moderate climate of the Algarve contribute to make this province a place of investment, which is becoming very attractive to may foreign and Portuguese families, who wish to purchase homes for holidays and retirement.  The Algarve offers the potential buyer a vast choice of options.

The Algarve is the playground of Portugal. The key attraction is it's pleasant climate. Boasting some 300 days of Sunshine, and some of Europe's most beautiful beaches and scenery, the Algarve is the perfect destination if you are looking for a With aproximately 19 top - class golf courses, numerous tennis and riding centres, and facilities for almost all types of water sports under the sun, not to mention the marvellous and unspoilt beaches, the Algarve is a very popular destination.

 

              Albufeira

One of the most tourist intensive areas in Portugal, Albufeira is a well known holiday destination. The town itself consists of the 'old' and the 'new' section. 'New' Albufeira, affectionately known as the strip, has a famous thoroughfare which stretches past scores of shops, bars, restaurants and disco's whilst the 'old' town still retains some of its traditional charm with its narrow cobbled streets and quaint whitewashed houses leading down to a central square.

There are seven beaches in and around Albufeira and watersports are widely available. Shopping is plentiful with souvenirs in abundance and market days selling traditional ceramics and jewellery. Nightlife, sunshine and beaches and just some of the guaranteed features of Albufeira. Its the best place to be if you're looking for the liveliest clubs, bars and floorshows.

               Almancil

The Almancil area - Almancil village itself has very good shopping facilities and some excellent restaurants – is a hub from which you can very quickly access the luxurious villa developments, golf courses and beach facilities of Quinta do Lago, Vale do Lobo, Vila Sol and the historic towns of Loulé, and Estoi, with its palace and Roman ruins – plus of course Faro. Choose a property in this area, and you’ll feel right at home from day one.

                Alvor

Situated on the Rio Arade estuary, this ancient port has survived over 2,000 years to become a bustling town, popular with both the locals and tourists. The narrow cobbled streets, lined with delightful restaurants and small shops, wind down towards the harbour and the long sandy beach which extends to Praia da Rocha. Many people use the beach for water sports and sunbathing, while other prefer to explore the more quiet and secluded coves.

For golfers, there are several courses in the vicinity including Alto Golf, Palmares and Vale da Pinta. For an interesting day out, the towns of Lagos and Portimao are just a short drive away and are perfect for shopping or experiencing a taste of local history.

                Carvoeiro

Although transformed from a small fishing village to a tourist centre during the high season, this charming coastal resort which huddles around a small bay with crystal clear water has lost none of its traditional charm. In fact, fishermen still land their catch every morning on the beach to be served later at one of the many excellent restaurants that line Carvoeiro’s bustling streets.

For evening entertainment, Carvoeiro has a huge number of restaurants serving both local and international cuisine and many bars feature music several times each week. The main square is a lively gathering point where the locals meet to enjoy a glass of wine and watch the folk singing and dancing displays.

                 Ferragudo

Ferragudo is one of the most attractive traditional fishing villages on the Algarve and still not yet overpowered by the tourist trade. Village life still revolves around the quayside square with its narrow cobbled streets and steps, meandering up from the old quay to the summit and the church.  A few minutes drive will bring you to the bustling town of Carvoeiro, Portimao, the second largest town and port famous for its sardines, the quaint fishing village of Alvor and for the younger and more energetic, Praia da Rocha.

                  Galé

Galé has now developed into a small resort in its own right and has one of the best known beaches on the Algarve. Gale Beach has a vast expanse of golden sand with many beachside bars, cafes and watersports. A much sought after area with excellent clifftop walks and numerous secluded beaches can be found along this glorious coastline.

                Lagoa

Lagoa is a small traditional town still retaining much of its traditional character from years gone by. If you have time to explore the narrow cobbled streets, you will still find many old churches worthy of a visit. The town grew up around the main church and the winding streets are lined with white houses, some displaying the fancy chimneys typical of the Algarve. In Lagoa most crafts are ceramics and are made with an age old tradition.

               Lagos

A major port and capital of the Algarve for 2 centuries, Lagos is now an important tourist town and historically one of the area's most interesting places to visit. A fascinating mixture of ancient and modern - buildings dating as far back as 1445 combine with the stylish new marina, paved promenades and designer shops in quiet cobbled back streets, making Lagos one of the most sought after resorts along this beautiful coastline.

Nearby, fabulous beaches and coves welcome tourists to their golden sands and golf enthusiasts can play at any of the 3 courses in the vicinity. For those who look to the water for relaxation, the marina provides different boat tours and deep sea fishing outings.

                Silves

Situated 15 kilometres from the coast and nestling in the valley of the Arade river, the charming town of Silves is dominated by one of the largest and best preserved castles in southern Portugal.

Silves has a great deal to offer, blending past and present to create its own unique atmosphere.

                Vilamoura

This modern resort is one of the most popular tourist complexes on the Algarve occupying a prestigious location approximately 30 minutes drive along the coast from Faro.


There are many bars, cafes, restaurants and even casinos available to suit every taste and budget. Sports enthusiasts are well catered for with four 18 hole golf courses, tennis club, riding school, water sports facilities and local gymnasium. In fact, the ambience in Vilamoura is more international than Algarvean.
